An Ode to the Last Days of Summer: Heirloom Tomato Salad

September is upon is, and while we bask in the heat of the final long weekend of summer, the new month comes the promise of fall—the cooler weather, the changing colours of the leaves, the shortening days, the pulling on of a sweater in the evenings, the craving for comfort food.

While I confess that autumn is my favourite season of them all, I’ll just hang on to the last shreds of summer for as long as I can, and while Mother Nature allows it. I’m not quite ready to give up the warm rays of the sun, or the wonderful summer harvest that has been making their appearance at the local farmer’s markets.

Street Food Block Party

Last Saturday, Torontonians gathered at the Evergreen Brick Works for a fantastic and delicious, Cinco de Mayo-themed evening of street food. Street food has been on a rising trend in the GTA in the last year, with a growing number of food trucks and pop-ups showing up on the streets and at events. Two of Toronto’s most popular street food events, Food Truck Eats and the Toronto Underground Market, joined forces to bring hungry foodies food trucks and food vendors all under one roof at the Street Food Block Party.

YUM in my TUM: Toronto Underground Market

As a foodie, I'm so lucky to be living in Toronto. Not only do we have some fantastic, world-class restaurants in the city, but we have such a vast array of different cuisines to choose from, and from the budget-friendly to the high-end, special occasions treat. And with foodies calling for more unique and alternative dining options, food vendors at farmer's markets and events like Food Truck Eats have become huge hits. So when I heard that an Underground Market was coming to Toronto, I couldn't wait to check it out.
