Things Are Getting Steamy!

Unfortunately for you, in a very G-rated way. But fortunately, in a very delicious way!

I love steaming. A lot has to do with its long history in Chinese cuisine. I grew up with a lot of steamed dishes—steamed whole fish, steamed tofu with shrimp or scallops, steamed “cakes” (really more like a dense pudding) during Chinese New Years, and let’s not forget delicious steamed dim sum, dumplings and buns. The list is endless.

A Date with Bananas

banana_date_loaf_01

There’s something really special about banana bread. No matter how many times I make it, I never get sick of making it. Nor do I get sick of eating it. And it’s such a great way to use up overripe bananas because honestly, who likes eating bananas when they’re all spotted and strongly smelling of…well…bananas? (At least I don't!)

Broccoli Bisque

Simplicity at its finest. Broccoli. Leeks. Potato. Throw into a pot with some chicken stock. Simmer. Blend. Soup. Divine.

It doesn’t have to be any more complicated than this. And why should it be?

Let's Get Meat-Crazy!

bulgogi_taco_04

It sure was a lucky evening last night, to be in the presence of so many fabulous people and delicious food. When I was invited to the Meatluck—a meat-centric potluck that was organized and hosted by the wonderful Joel Solish (@foodie411), I was extremely excited. How could I say no to great company and good food?

I mean, just feast your eyes on a small sample of the menu… Beth’s beef brisket with green pea puree and horseradish on chips.

Orange Cranberry Loaf

orange_cran_bread_01

Does anyone else feel like January is always the month of leftovers? What with the leftover turkey and trimmings to work through, it’s no wonder. I had a bag of cranberries left over that didn’t make it into the cranberry sauce at Christmas. It’s not often I have fresh cranberries to work with, so it was a nice treat to bake with them.

I decided to make a quick bread with them, and what better pairing with cranberries than citrus. Fresh cranberries deserve fresh orange juice and zest to complement it, no?

Starting 2010 on the Right Track

Happy New Year everyone! It’s a new year, and a new look for my blog! I hope you like the makeover and will find it a bit easier to navigate your way through my blog in the future. I’m still getting used to it myself and still working out some kinks, but any feedback is always welcome.

So what are everyone’s New Year’s resolutions for 2010? I don’t know if I believe in them anymore, considering I have a hard time falling through with them. But I always think it’s a good idea anyway to set some goals for one’s self at the start of a new year (hey, a new year, a new you, right?). Some food-related resolutions I hope to follow through on:
