Twelve Cookies of Christmas #12: Chocolate Peppermint Bark Cookies

Well, we've come to the end, the last cookie of my Twelve Cookies of Christmas. And I bring you an especially festive cookie for the holidays. I first made these three years ago, when I saw them in my December 2009 issue of Bon Appetit, and decided to bring them back this year.

One of my favourite flavour combinations is chocolate peppermint. For some reason, chocolate peppermint particularly makes me think of the holidays and winter, perhaps because of that refreshing burst you get from the mint, like a cool breath in your mouth. With the addition of candy canes, it makes these cookies especially festive.

A Sweet Start to the Year of the Dragon

Gong hei fat choy! The Chinese/Lunar New Year is upon us once again (it officially began yesterday), and this year, we're celebrating the Year of the Dragon, supposedly the luckiest of the 12 Chinese zodiacs. The year has certainly started off lucky, as I've been stuffing my face non-stop with delicious New Year's foods.

Bacon makes everything better. Or that's how the saying goes, right? Whether you agree with that statement or not, these shortbread definitely get a boost with a little bit of bacon jam. Much like the Black Sesame Shortbread, they are the perfect combination of sweet and savoury in a single bite.

Twelve Days of Christmas, #6: Black Sesame Shortbread

This next cookie is made with my mom in mind in particular. You see, she's a fan of black sesame seeds, and I wanted to make a cookie just for her. Plus I loved the idea of pairing the intense, nutty, almost savoury flavour of black sesames with the buttery sweetness of shortbread.
