Wild Leek Pesto
Spring is most definitely in the air, and that means a lot of spring produce is starting to crop up at the farmer's markets. Rhubarb. Asparagus. Fiddle heads. And of course, ramps. Also known as wild leeks.

If you've never eaten ramps before, or even seen ramps, they look nothing like the "regular" leeks you would find in your typical produce store. The bottom of ramp stalks look much like a green onions, with reddish-purple stalk and broad leaves. The taste and smell is a cross between a garlic and an onion and very pungent.

Perth County Week: Lunch in the Barn

After an eventful morning touring some of Stratford’s finest food producers—Monforte Dairy, Soiled Reputation and Perth Pork Products—we made our way back to Soiled Reputation for lunch. We were certainly in for a treat, as Chef Neil Baxter of Stratford’s celebrated Rundles, along with two assistants, was preparing us a three-course lunch using ingredients from all three producers we visited in the morning.

Indian-Spiced Salmon with Herbed Yogurt Sauce
Oh, how I've missed my kitchen!

It has been weeks since I last cooked a good meal in my kitchen. I'm pretty sure the most action it has seen is my water kettle boiling water. But with the craziness of work behind me and a long weekend at my leisure, I had the luxury of making myself a lovely home-cooked meal again.
